Two straight goals for visiting McGill proved to the be the difference as the Redmen beat the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team 3-2 in an exhibition game on Saturday night in Canton, N.Y.

After a scoreless first period, in which the Saints outshot McGill 14-4, the team's traded goals early in the middle frame. McGill struck first with Dominic Talbot-Tassi beating St. Lawrence goaltender Arthur Brey high on the glove side at the 5:25 mark of the second.

Saints' senior defenseman Nolan Gluchowski pulled the Saints even less than two minutes later with the team's skating four aside. The Wixom, Mich. native ripped a slapshot from the slot that beat Louis-Philip Guidon five hole with Ben Finkelstein and Ryan Garvey assisting.

At the 18:15 mark of the second it was Harlan Orr who beat Brey with a wrist shot from the right circle to give McGill a 2-1 lead, and Nathanael Halbert extended the Redmen lead to 3-1 with a power play tally 3:26 into the final frame against backup goaltender Daniel Mannella.

The Saints chipped away with a power play goal of their own by Jacob Pritchard midway through the third, as he snuck a wrister under Guidon's blocker on the far side to pull within one. First-year defensemen Bo Hanson and Philip Alftberg set up Pritchard on the play.

Despite gaining momentum from the Pritchard goal, the Saints couldn't find the equalizer in the final minutes. They finished with a 39-26 edge in total shots against the Redmen on Saturday. Both teams finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Brey, who started the game and played the first two periods, and Daniel Mannella combined to make 23 saves for St. Lawrence, while McGill's Louis-Philip Guindon finished with 37 saves in the win.
With the win, McGill improves to 4-2 on the season. Because it's an exhibition game, the loss does not count towards the Saints' overall record for 2017-18.

St. Lawrence will open regular season play hosting the Univeristy of Michigan on Oct. 6 at Appleton Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
