Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Shut Out Hartwick

Hannah Merriam scored a goal and added an assist to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Hartwick Friday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

Emily Wade opened up scoring for the Saints early in the first half after Merriam took the corner kick from the left side and Wade was able to put a one-touch shot straight to the back of the net.

However, both teams remained scoreless through the rest of the first half, despite numerous shots on goal from the Saints.

"We started a bit slow today but I do believe the heat was a factor," said head coach Franco Bari. "Hartwick played us tough and certainly took us out of our game in the first half. After a few adjustments at half time we were able to add a bit more to our attack and did an excellent job of finishing. I was also really pleased with our group defending while limiting their opportunities."

After the break, Kelly Mahoney fed Merriam a pass that slipped off the hands of Hartwick goalkeeper Celeste Trevellini during the 63rd minute of play.

Just under three minutes later, first-year forward Katie Clemmer scored her second collegiate goal. Kira Murphy fed a long pass up the sideline allowing Clemmer to breakaway past the Hawks defender and put St. Lawrence up 3-0.

Saints goalkeeper Samantha Allen recorded her third shutout of the season and finished the game with three saves. Cassandra Robataille and Trevellini combined for seven saves in net for the Hawks.

St. Lawrence outshot the Hawks 18-8 overall with a 10-3 shots on goal advantage.

With the win the Saints advanced to 3-2 on the season, while Hartwick fell to 4-2.

The Saints will take on SUNY Oswego Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
