Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Late Rally Falls Short

Kara Hurley and Kiera Taussig scored two man-down goals late in the second half, but the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team fell to Skidmore 10-8 in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.

St. Lawrence was led by Hurley with three goals and an assist, while Taussig netted two goals, picked up four ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Saints. Kayla Schmalz, Emma Jewett and Ashley Norris scored the remaining three goals.

Skidmore picked up an early lead scoring seven goals in just over 15 minutes of play to lead the Saints 7-1. The Saints rallied to close the gap on the Thoroughbreds as Jewett and Schmalz scored two goals heading into halftime. St. Lawrence capitalized on a couple of well executed plays, when Alexandra LaMotte rang the crossbar with just over 15 minutes to play in the second half. Hurley found the back of the net with 1:22 left to play, while Taussig rolled a shot past goaltender Megan Kolopsky with 50 seconds remaining to cap the comeback attempt for the Saints with two man-down goals.

"It was a tough loss for us today, especially after the overtime win yesterday," said head coach Ashley Pike. "There's lots of Liberty League play left in the season and we're looking forward to taking on RIT next week."

The Thoroughbreds were led by Amanda Orvis, who scored four goals and caused two turnovers. Natalie LaBeau scored two goals for Skidmore, while Cas Szwajkowski, Lilla Seymour, Marisa Caponi and Allison Byrne tallied one goal each. Kolopsky recorded 12 saves for Skidmore, while Cricket Wemyss and Olga Lukas combined for four saves in goal for the Saints.

Both teams split their conference play this weekend, as Skidmore improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Saints fell to 4-6, 1-2.

St. Lawrence will travel to RIT Friday afternoon, facing off against the Tigers at 4p.m.
