Saints Rebound, Defeat Union on Senior Day

The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team defeated Union 11-9 in a back-and-forth Liberty League contest Saturday afternoon at North Country Field on senior day.

Senior captain Kiera Taussig led the Saints with a hat trick, to pull within three goals of the 100-goal milestone for her career. Alexandra LaMotte, Emma Jewett and Olivia Slade tallied two goals each, while Julia Mitiguy and Greta Massey scored one goal apiece for the Saints.

LaMotte kicked off a rally for the Saints with her unassisted goal with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half bringing the game within one, as Union led 3-2. Taussig then drove from the top of the arc to tie the game up 3-3 just over a minute to play in the half. The Saints then scored three goals in 29 seconds to take a 6-3 lead over the Dutchmen.

Union opened up the second half with five unanswered goals, but the Saints were quick to respond with their own five-goal run, capped by Slade's goal with 10 minutes remaining. Jackie Hagopian netted one last goal for Union but the Saints' defense held the Dutchmen at bay and secured the win.

"It was great to honor the senior class with a win this afternoon," said head coach Ashley Pike. "It was a combined effort on both ends of the field and a great momentum builder heading into our last two regular season games next weekend."

Union was led by Hagopian, who scored four goals, while Hannah Rosenberger tallied two goals and Kellie Cronin scored one goal and added an assist. Cailin Pandolfi and Ramsey Walsh also scored one goal each.

St. Lawrence outshot Union 33-29 and picked up 15 ground balls to the Dutchmen's four.

The Saints honored the class of 2017 after the game and moved to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while Union fell to 4-8, 3-4. St. Lawrence wraps up their regular season on the road at Bard and Vassar next weekend.
