Saints Sweep Weekend of Conference Play

The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team came from behind and earned a weekend sweep defeating the University of Rochester 8-4 Saturday afternoon in Rochester, New York.

The Saints were led by Kiera Taussig and Kayla Schmalz with two goals each. Emma Jewett scored one goal and added an assist, while Kara Hurley, Alexandra LaMotte and Jacqueline Sovie netted one goal each.

St. Lawrence fell behind early on but capitalized on three man-up opportunities to rebound and secure their third conference win of the season. The Yellowjackets shot out to an early 3-1 lead over the Saints in the first 12 minutes of play. LaMotte scored first advantage goal with 13:04 left in the first half to tie the score 3-3 off a pass from Tayler Kent. Schmalz stretched the Saints lead to 5-3 just before halftime and tallied the third man-up goal with just under eight minutes to play.

Defensively, the Saints held Rochester to just 11 shots on goal, caused eight turnovers and picked up 13 ground balls.

The Yellowjackets were led by Jamie Wallisch, who scored two goals and added an assist. Madeline Mullholand and Marina Kern tallied the other two goals goals for Rochester. In goal, Cricket Wemyss made seven saves for St. Lawrence, while Conley Ernst had five saves for Rochester.

St. Lawrence snapped Rochester's four-game win streak and improved to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in Liberty League play, while Rochester fell to 8-3, 4-2.

The Saints return home next weekend to face William Smith and Union for their final home games of the season.
