Clarkson's midfielder Jaid Baytos ripped a shot past goaltender
Olga Lukas just 26 seconds into overtime as the Golden Knights defeated the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team 10-9 Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.
Baytos would collect the ball off the first draw control of overtime and carry the shot all the way to the crease to secure the first Liberty League win of the season for Clarkson.
St. Lawrence was led by
Julia Mitiguy and
Kayla Schmalz with two goals each, while
Kiera Taussig,
Kara Hurley,
Rachel Boghosian,
Emma Jewett and
Greta Massey each netted one for the Saints. Taussig caused four turnovers for the Saints, while Schmalz picked up three ground balls and cause two turnovers.
The Saints commanded the lead for the majority of the game firing the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead just over five minutes into the first half. The Golden Knights' persevered and managed comeback, as Baytos scored a man-up goal with just under two minutes to play in the first half to tie the game 5-5. Taussig, Massey and Hurley responded out of the gate for the Saints to raise a three goal lead for the Saints. Another comeback would prove successful for Clarkson with four unanswered goals to take their second lead of the game. Mitiguy took a free-position shot to tie the game 9-9 for the Saints late in the second half.
Clarkson was led by Baytos with five goals, while Kate Dillon added two. Ashley Flick, Katie Sergeant and Abby Collins also scored for the Golden Knights.
Samantha Gladd made seven saves in goal for the Golden Knights, while
Cricket Wemyss and Lukas combined for five saves.Â
Clarkson improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play as the Saints fell to 3-5, 0-1.
The Saints return to North Country Field Friday afternoon, facing off against RPI.
