Jamie DeNicola netted a season-high five goals as the fourth-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team defeated Nazareth 14-3 Tuesday evening in a neutral site game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York.
The Saints were led by DeNicola, followed by
Jon Fairbanks and
Conor Healey with two goals each.
Austin Nadeau,
Jamie Kuppel,
Andrew Jarrett,
Sam Boehle and
Jordan Dow each scored once for the Saints. Dow also contributed four ground balls and caused one turnover. The Saints' defense was led by
Sam Sweeney and
Caleb Kane with three ground balls apiece. Boehle's goal was his first of the season.
St. Lawrence fired six goals in the first quarter to blank the Golden Flyers 6-0. DeNicola's second goal of the game served as the game-winning goal for the Saints. Paul Walker responded with the Golden Flyers first goal of the game with just under nine minutes to play in the second quarter. The Saints' combined attack shut down any comback attempts from the Golden Flyers.
"It was a great experience to be down at the Carrier Dome today," said head coach
Mike Mahoney '93. "It was a total team effort on both ends of the field."
Nazareth's three goals were scored by Walker, Nick Rodin and Jack Crowley. Alex Winkler and Andrew Leahey combined for 12 saves in goal for the Golden Flyers, while
Alex Terry made eight saves between the pipes for the Saints.
The Saints improved to 7-0 on the season, while the Golden Flyers fell to 4-5 overall.
St. Lawrence travels to No. 5 RIT on Saturday for their second Liberty League contest of the season.
