Saints Post High-Scoring Win Over Colorado

Rachel Boghosian scored a career-high of five goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to a 21-18 win over undefeated Colorado College Thursday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Col., for their first spring break win.

The Saints' offense was led by Boghosian, followed by Julia Mitiguy and Kara Hurley, who tallied four goals apiece. Kayla Schmalz added three goals, while Nicole Adee led the team with three caused turnovers.

St. Lawrence shot out to a 3-0 lead in the first minute and 40 seconds of play against the Tigers. Colorado then fought back with four consecutive goals to take their first lead of the game. Schmaltz drove hard off a successful clear for the Saints and fired a shot from the left side of the crease to regain the lead (6-5). Three minutes later Boghosian scored on a free position shot to increase the Saints lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the half. After trading goals the scoring was capped by Emma Jewett's fourth goal of the season to give the Saints an 11-9 halftime lead.

The Saints repeated the first half as they opened the second with two early goals to take a four-goal lead over Colorado. St. Lawrence commanded the lead for the remainder of the game despite numerous comeback attempts by the Tigers.

"Today was a great win and confidence booster for the team," said head coach Ashley Pike. "We're looking forward to what tomorrow brings."

The Tigers were led by Annie Defrino with five goals, while Eva King contributed four. Steph Kelly, Sadie Cole and Ellie Meyer each added two goals for Colorado.

Cricket Wemyss and Olga Lukas combined for 13 saves in goal for the Saints, while Remy Wells and Zoe Frolik recorded eight for the Tigers.

St. Lawrence improved to 2-4, and handed Colorado their first loss as they fell to 8-1.

The Saints return to Colorado College tomorrow morning to face Chapman University.
