Saints Close Regular Season with Loss to Skidmore

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team suffered a 87-80 loss to Skidmore to end the Liberty League regular season play Friday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

Senior Kyle Edwards led the Saints with 27 points and seven rebounds and is currently ranks 11th on St. Lawrence's all-time scoring list. Junior Riley Naclerio added 23 points and 12 rebounds to post his ninth double-double of the season, while senior Willie Zachery added 13 points.

The Saints held their own throughout the first half, grabbing a 13-11 lead at the 11:48 mark with two free throws from Naclerio. St. Lawrence would edge the Thoroughbreds again (18-15) at 10:29 off a three-pointer from Naclerio. Skidmore would then grab 10 unanswered points to lead 30-20.



The Thoroughbreds held a 37-29 lead heading into the locker room. Skidmore shot out after halftime with a 45-33 lead with 15:24 to play in the game. The Saints pushed back to draw the game within two (63-65) with a rebound from Edwards and layup from Kieran Miller. Edwards then nailed a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining in the game bring the game within three. Skidmore's Edvinas Rupkus would hit four free throws to drain the clock and seal the win.

Skidmore was led by Rupkus with 42 points and eight rebounds. Jack Morrow added 15, while Aldin Medunjanin contributed 12.

Skidmore clinches the regular season championship as they improve to 18-6 and 13-2 in conference play. St. Lawrence finishes off the regular season 20-5 and 13-3.

The Saints with host Union this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints are currently 2-0 against Union this season.
