The St. Lawrence women's basketball team got off to a slow start as they were defeated by Clarkson, 57-44 in a Liberty League contest Tuesday evening in Potsdam, N.Y. The Saints managed to tie the game 10-10 early in the first quarter but Clarkson responded with a series of shots that they couldn't recover from.
St. Lawrence was led by junior
Kaelyn Kohlasch who scored 11 points. Sophomore
Meghan Hynes added 10 while senior
Caroline Dalton added nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Saints trailed 27-19 heading into the locker room and worked hard to fight their way back in the last quarters of the game. St. Lawrence drew the game within 10 points twice during the third quarter gaining momentum against the Golden Knights. The Saints then brought the game within seven off a rebound from Dalton and a layup from Hynes with 1:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. Clarkson secured the win with a three pointer from Molly Stewart as the game drew to a close.
Clarkson was led by Madison Shea with 14 points. Devin Sorell contributed 13 and Stephanie Grobe added 10 points.
St. Lawrence falls to 9-14 and 6-9 in league play, while the Golden Knights improve to 15-9 and 10-5.
The Saints return home this Friday as they take on Skidmore at 5 p.m. at Burkman Gymnasium.
