Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Fall to Fourth-Ranked Clarkson, 4-1

Amanda McClure (pictured above) scored a power play goal to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead in the second period, but the fourth-ranked Clarkson women's hockey team scored four unanswered goals to beat the eighth-ranked Saints 4-1 in an ECAC Hockey contest on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

Loren Gable and Michaela Pejzlova scored in a span of just 79 seconds late in the second period, and Josiane Pozzebon and Elizabeth Giguere scored late in the third period to put the game away for the Golden Knights.

"We had some great energy and chances for the majority of the second period and once again (Clarkson goaltender) Shea Tiley kept it a one-goal game," said head coach Chris Wells '92. "This was a good weekend of hockey in the North Country. Both teams played hard and clean and left it all on the ice. We didn't get any points, but we improved as a team and are closer to where we want to be a the end of the year."

Clarkson was strong out of the gate, outshooting the Saints 10-3 in the first 10 minutes of the first period, but Saints' goaltender Grace Harrison stopped all 10 shots and the scoring chances began to tilt in the Saints' favor in the second half of the period, as the final shot tally in the opening frame was 14-9 for Clarkson.

McClure scored the game's first goal seven minutes into the second period, with Kennedy Marchment finding the defenseman at the right side of the crease after picking up a rebound off a shot by Lydia Grauer. McClure made easy work of the wide-open net for her first goal of the season.

While the Saints controlled most of the second period, it was Clarkson that would head to the locker room with the lead, as Gabel sniped a wrist shot from the top of the right circle through a screen high to the short side to tie the game with 2:10 left in the period. Pejzlova gave the Golden Knights the lead with 50.5 seconds remaining, tapping in a loose puck that slid through the crease after a shot by Giguere was saved by Harrison.

Pozzebon increased Clarkson's lead to two with a power play goal with 3:31 to play on a scramble in front, and Giguere scored an empty net goal 28 seconds later.

Tiley finished the game with 24 saves, while Harrison stopped a season-high 27 shots for the Saints.

St. Lawrence fell to 7-6-3, 4-3-1 ECAC Hockey with the loss, while Clarkson moved to 14-3-1, 6-2-0.

The Saints will go on the road next weekend to face Rensselaer and Union in conference games in the capital region.
