Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Fall to Second-Ranked Clarkson

Kennedy Marchment gave the sixth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game, but second-ranked Clarkson scored six unanswered goals, including four on the power play, to defeat the Saints 6-1 in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena in Potsdam.

"We were able to get off to a good start and really applied pressure on them throughout the second period," said head coach Chris Wells '92. "Unfortunately we haven't been able to capitalize on our power play opportunities and Clarkson sure made good on theirs. Among other things, that was the big difference in the weekend. I certainly didn't have our team prepared to play at this level and Clarkson did."

Elizabeth Giguere, who scored two goals in Clarkson's 4-2 win on Friday, had another big game for the Golden Knights, scoring one goal and adding four assists. Michaela Pejzlová scored two goals and added one assist for Clarkson, while Loren Gable and Ella Shelton both had one goal and one assist.

Clarkson was 4-for-7 on the power play, while the Saints were held scoreless in seven opportunities. Grace Harrison made 24 saves for St. Lawrence, while Shea Tiley stopped 23 shots for Clarkson, which improved to 7-0-1.

St. Lawrence will open ECAC Hockey play next weekend, hosting 10th-ranked Cornell and fifth-ranked Colgate at Appleton Arena.

"A season is not determined in one weekend, so we will look to improve this week as we welcome Cornell and Colgate," said Wells.
