Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Come Out On Top of Hard Fought Battle with RPI

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team added another Liberty League win to the books with an 88-81 win over Rensselaer at Burkman Gymnasium Friday night in Canton, N.Y.

The contest was a close rally between the two, as members of both teams made significant contributions. The Saints were led by senior guard Kyle Edwards, who tallied 24 points, shooting 3-for-4 from the 3-point arc, and going 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Senior Kyle Kobis and junior Riley Naclerio both added 15 points. Naclerio also snagged nine rebounds. Sophomore Ben Crawford added 13 points and senior guard Willie Zachery added 10 points as all five starters reached double figures. The Saints shot 54 percent from the field, including 61 percent in the second half, and were 13-for-23 from behind the 3-point line.

The Saints held a slight 35-32 lead heading into the locker room after the first half. St. Lawrence was matched almost point for point throughout the second half as the back and forth action continued, but Ben Crawford's dunk with less than a minute to play gave the Saints an 84-76 lead.

"RPI is a good team with some great players," said head coach Chris Downs. "This is a solid win for us. Once you've been through the league once, everyone knows everyone else and RPI was ready for us today."

The Engineers were led by sophomores Tom Horvat, who scored 22 points, and Andreas Kontopidis, who tallied 17.

The Saints improved to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in Liberty League play. RPI fell to 10-9, 4-6.

The Saints will face Union College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
