Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 5 Saints Win Battle of Unbeatens in Overtime

For the second game in a row Jethro Dede notched the game-winning goal, this time in overtime, to help the No. 5 St. Lawrence men's soccer team to a 2-1 in over No. 21 SUNY Plattsburgh in a battle of unbeatens on Tuesday night.

With under a minute remaining in the first overtime the Saints were awarded a free kick 35 yards from goal. Senior Noah Bunton sent service into the box, where the ball deflected off a cluster of players on the edge of the six-yard box before kicking out to Dede on the far post. The New York, N.Y. native put a flat angle shot behind Cardinals goalkeeper Andrew LaClaustra for his third goal in as many games to seal the win for St. Lawrence.

The Saints are now 7-0-0 on the year, while the loss is the first for Plattsburgh. The Cardinals fall to 7-1-0.

The Saints took the lead in the 22nd minute when Brendan McNamee one-timed the rebound from a shot by Tapshak Augustine after it was blocked by a Cardinals defender and bested LaClaustra.

St. Lawrence held its 1-0 lead into the 60th minute when Plattsburgh found the equalizer on a counterattack and Alex Archilla hit Alex Price streaking towards the far post to beat first-year goalkeeper Jackson Schierbeek and even the score at 1-1.

While it was all St. Lawrence in the first half, where the Saints outshot Plattsburgh 7-1, the Cardinals came out strong in the second and posted a 13-4 shot advantage. The Saints had the only two shots in the overtime period.

Schierbeek finished with four saves in the win, while LaClaustra had two stops for Plattsburgh on Tuesday night.

The Saints will carry their undefeated record into Liberty League play on Saturday, as they play host to Hobart in the conference opener at 3 p.m.
