Tom Sullivan and
Adam Reichel both homered for Saints Baseball on Wednesday afternoon, but St. Lawrence fell 6-3 to Ithaca in their final nonconference game on the season at Wells College in Auburn, N.Y.
Sullivan hit his first career home run as he and Reichel both notched solo shots in the late innings of Wednesday's game with the Bombers, and first-year
Taylor Digilio led the team with a 3-for-5, 1 RBI performance, but the Saints couldn't fully erase an early four-run deficit.
Ithaca built a 2-0 lead in the first inning and extended it to 3-0 with an inside the park homerun in the second after two St. Lawrence fielders collided.
The lead stood until the fifth inning when Digilio drove in the Saints first run with an RBI single up the middle that plated
Evan Reichel.
The Bombers answered in their half of the frame with a two-run home run down the left field line to increase their lead to 5-1.
Sullivan led off the sixth for St. Lawrence with a homerun to left center and Reichel sent a shot over the wall in right field in the eight to pull the Saints within two runs, but Ithaca added a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth for the eventual 6-3 margin.
Starter
Frank Grady pitched four innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in the loss. Four first-year relievers –
Robert Gates,
Alex Black,
Robert Iametti and
Charlie Pacilio each pitched an inning and allowed just one hit apiece. Black and Iametti held the Bombers scoreless while on the mound for the Saints.
St. Lawrence, now 12-23 on the year, will wrap up their season at home with a four-game Liberty League series with RPI on Saturday and Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. each day.
