The St. Lawrence softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games to Clarkson on Thursday afternoon, as the Golden Knights posted a 10-2 win in five innings in game one and then erased a six-run deficit in the second en route to a 9-6 win.
Kylee Knight led the Saints with five hits on the afternoon, going 2-for-3 in the first game and 3-for-4 in the second with one RBI and a run scored.
Kelsey Murphy drove in three runs for the Saints in game two.
Emma Gailey was the pitcher of record in both games, as she fell to 5-5 on the season.
Clarkson has a 3-0 lead through the first two innings in game one, but the Saints cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
With two outs,
Elle Gray worked a walk and then St. Lawrence hit back-to-back RBI doubles off the bats of
Emma Reakes and
Abrianna Schlickenmayer for its lone runs of the game.
Clarkson responded with five runs on six hits and one error in the bottom half of the inning to push its lead to 8-2 and added two in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early at the eventual 10-2 margin.
Gailey went three and two-thirds innings in the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs with one strikeout.
Hannah Sears come on in relief and gave up four runs on four hits with a strikeout of her own.
In game two, the Saints opened up a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning, all of which came with two outs.
With Schlickenmayer on second after a double to right center,
Elle Gray was hit by a pitch and
Carly Dziekan singled to the pitcher to load the bases. That is, until a double to left center by Murphy cleared them for a 3-0 St. Lawrence lead.
Knight followed with an RBI single down the right field line and then, after a bunt single by
Jordan Sheridan, Mann hit a two RBI double to right to push the lead to 6-0.
But the Golden Knights scored three on two hits and one error in the bottom of the third and would add two more in the fifth to cut the visitor's lead to one run, before pushing four across in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and earn the sweep.
The Saints, now 8-13 overall and 1-3 in Liberty League games, will play host to RPI on Saturday and Union on Sunday in a pair of conference doubleheaders.
