Kennedy Marchment's first period goal proved to be all the Saints would need on Friday, as they shutout Union 2-0 in Appleton Arena. Kayla Nielsen also scored for the Saints while first-year Grace Harrison made 13 saves for her second career shutout.

With the win the Saints improve to 14-11-4 on the year and 8-6-3 in the conference, while Union remains winless at 0-23-6 and 0-14-3.

The Dutchwomen got off to a good start and arguably had the better of the Saints in the first 10 minutes, but a string of penalties – two for the Saints and one for Union – opened up the ice for the Saints and Marchment was able to convert on a four-on-four.

The Courtice, Ont. native put the Saints on the board at the 12:46 mark with her team-leading 10^th of the season off a feed from Brooke Webster. Webster took a two-line pass from first-year Lydia Grauer before hitting Marchment as she was entering the zone. Marchment split the defense and snapped off a quick wrister from the slot to beat Union netminder Melissa Black high on the blocker side.

After taking the lead, it was all St. Lawrence from then on out. The Saints limited Union to just three shots in the second period and two in the third.

Nielsen extended the lead to 2-0 when she redirected a slapshot from Kirsten Padalis at the edge fo the crease to send the puck into the top of the net behind black. Webster also picked up an assist on the play; her second of the night.

Union's first shot in the third period came on a breakaway by Jamie Smith with six minutes to play, but Harrison read Smith the whole way and stayed with the puck when she switch to her backhand getting her right skate on it to preserve the shutout.

St. Lawrence finished with a 40-13 edge in shots, with Black making 38 saves for the Dutchwomen; including a number of excellent stops on tips in front.

The Saints will return to Appleton Arena tomorrow at 4 p.m. to face the Engineers of Rensselaer.
