Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Kyle Kobis Leads Balanced Attack in win over Rensselaer

Senior Kyle Kobis scored 14 points, including seven in a key second half run, to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 76-63 victory over Rensselaer Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League matchup in Troy.

St. Lawrence (8-1 overall, 2-0 Liberty League) and Rensselaer (7-4, 1-1) battled back and forth throughout the first half and the early minutes of the second half. With the score tied 42-42 with 13:13 to play, the Saints went on a 16-1 run over the next five minutes and held a double digit lead for the remainder of the game.

"It was great to see some other players step up today," said head coach Chris Downs. "We are confident in the scoring ability of several different players and today showed we are not a one dimensional team. It is good to see everyone getting involved in an important road win."

Kobis scored the final seven points of the run with a 3-pointer and two jumpers to give the Saints a 58-43 lead. Crawford, Riley Naclerio, Dom DeRegis, and Tinga Adaing also scored during the run.

A 3-pointer by DeRegis with 2:57 left pushed the lead to 20 points and the Saints cruised to the victory.

Kobis was joined by four other players in double figures for the Saints, with Naclerio scoring 12 and Willie Zachery, DeRegis and Kieran Miller scoring 10. Kobis also led the rebounding effort with seven, and Zachery had four assists. The Saints did not miss a free throw and shot nearly 50 percent from the field (30-for-61) for the game.

St. Lawrence returns home for a Tuesday night 8 p.m. matchup with Clarkson at Burkman Gymnasium.
