Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball team falls on Buzzer Beater

A last second basket after an offensive rebound gave Williams College a narrow 50-49 victory over the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon on the second day of action at the Williams College Classic in Williamstown, Mass.

St. Lawrence (0-5) had led for nearly the entire game before the last second heroics by Williams (6-1). After missing a pair of free throws with less than seven second remaining in the game, Williams regained possession after the ball deflected off a St. Lawrence player.

The inbounds pass went to the top of the formation and a driving layup was off the mark for Williams but Lauren McCall grabbed the offensive rebound and attempted a bank shot as time expired that fell in for the winning score.

The Saints had taken a 49-48 lead at the 1:31 mark with a basket by Cara Waterson but the Saints missed a late layup with 12 seconds remaining after a good inbounds play from deep in their own end of the floor.

Caroline Dalton led the Saints with 12 points and added seven rebounds while Katie Gallagher netted nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Waterson finished with seven points while Kaelyn Kohlasch, Meghan Hynes and Shayna Davner scored six points each. Davner led the Saints with 10 rebounds.

St. Lawrence returns home to prepare for its final two games of the first semester with short road trips to SUNY Potsdam Tuesday and SUNY Canton Thursday.
