Clarkson capitalized on a defensive miscue and earned a 1-0 win over the St. Lawrence men's soccer team in the final Liberty League game of the season. It is the first time Clarkson has beaten the Saints since 1993.
After the Saints had dominated possession for most of the game, the Golden Knights moved the ball into the offensive third in transition, turned the Saints' defender and moved in on a breakaway with two Saints in pursuit. In an attempt to clear the ball, the Saints kicked the ball forward and behind goalkeeper
Mike Smith for a 1-0 Clarkson lead.
Smith was tasked to make two saves, while Michael King made 10 saves in the win for Clarkson.
St. Lawrence finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 10-3 margin in shots on target.
The Saints, who are now 11-4 overall and finished 4-4 in conference play, will await the NCAA selection committee to see whether or not they receive and at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.
