Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Knock Off Ninth-Ranked Northeastern Again on Miller's Late Goal

Hannah Miller scored her second goal of the game off assists from Kennedy Marchment and Brooke Webster with 18 seconds left in the third period to give the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team a 6-5 win over ninth-ranked Northeastern in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena in Boston.

The win over the Huskies was the second in as many days for the Saints; St. Lawrence defeated Northeastern 5-0 in both teams' first game of the 2016-17 campaign last night. The Saints are now 2-0-0, while Northeastern has opened the season 0-2-0.

Once again, the Saints jumped out to 3-0 lead, as Justine Reyes, Nadine Edney and Marchment all found the back of the net. The similarities to yesterday's game, however, ended there, as Northeastern mounted an offensive challenge, eventually tying the game with just 8:23 left in the third period.

"The only thing missing from today were the carnival rides," said Saints head coach Chris Wells '92. "A fan-friendly game to say the least; each team showed great determination and resilience. We were able to get the last good chance and we capitalized."

Miller's game-winner was her second goal of the day. She also scored the first goal of the third period to give the Saints a 5-3 lead and had an assist on a goal by Webster, which gave the Saints a 4-2 lead halfway through the second period.

The Saints' top line of Miller, Webster and Marchment once again had a huge game. Webster, who had a hat trick last night, now has four goals on the season, while Marchment notched the Saints' first shorthanded goal of the year and added three assists for the second straight game. In just two games this season, the trio has combined for seven goals and 18 points.

McKenna Brand led the Huskies with two goals, while Denisa Krížová scored a goal and added two assists. Hayley Scamurra added a goal and an assist, while Bailey Coyne and Heather Mattau both had two assists.

Grace Harrison made 23 saves to get the win for the Saints, while Sarah Foss made 23 saves in the loss for Northeastern.

St. Lawrence will face Clarkson in their home opener on Friday night, then makes the short trip up Route 11 to Cheel Arena in Potsdam for the second half of the non-league home-and-home series on Saturday at 3 p.m.

"This trip was a great way for our team to learn this weekend," said Wells. "The two wins are obviously a great bonus. We have plenty to work on next week, but we will take some time to enjoy these wins then get back to work."
