No. 15 Tigers Shutout No. 21 Saints for First Loss

A goal off a corner kick in the 54th minute helped No. 15 RIT hand the No. 21 Saints their first loss of the season, 1-0, in the Liberty League opener on Saturday afternoon in Rochester. The Saints are now 7-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 against conference opponents, while RIT sits at 7-1-1 and 1-0-0.

"Today two good teams played really good soccer," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "Unfortunately, RIT capitalized on our one mistake and while we had good opportunities, they just wouldn't fall for us."

The Saints finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots and outshot the Tigers 5-2 in the first half, but couldn't get through the RIT goalkeeper tandem of Sienna Fisher and Kelly Rogers. Both Lindsay Geier and Katie Stames recorded two shots for St. Lawrence in the match.

Early in the second half, it was Riley Yankowich that headed a Courtney Hunt corner kick behind senior goalkeeper Kelsey West for the game winner.

West finished with two saves on the day for St. Lawrence, which will look to rebound from its conference-opening loss with games at a weekend of Liberty League matches at home on Sandy MacAllaster Field against Vassar (10/2) and Bard (10/3) at 4:00 and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
