Davner Sparks Saints in 79-47 Win Over Roos

Feb. 12: St. Lawrence University first-year student Shayna Davner scored all of her 16 points in the second half, leading the Saints women's basketball team to a 79-47 win at SUNY Canton on Thursday evening.

St. Lawrence improves to 18-5 on the year while the Roos fall to 7-13.  Jenny Scudder added 12 points, while Ellie Gonyeau scored a career-high nine points and Kara McDuffee had 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.  SUNY Canton, which was tied at halftime on Thursday, was led by Karyss Terrance's double-double (15 points, 16 rebounds).

The two North Country teams were tied at 24-24 at intermission after the Saints struggled throughout the opening 20:00 minutes.  The visitors were 0-for-8 from behind the arc and were outrebounded 23-21 with nine turnovers.  Tatiana Laroche gave Canton a seven point lead midway through the period, but a 6-0 St. Lawrence run to end the half leveled the scoring at the break.

The late run carried into the second half, as the Saints cruised with a 55-23 period to pick up the win.  Davner sparked the Saints' effort, while Hunter Hitchman added eight points.  St. Lawrence finished 6-for-12 from three in the second half, while Canton struggled with a 0-for-9 mark and shot just 19% from the floor.  The Saints led 40-34 with 12:28 left in the game before outscoring their hosts 39-13 down the stretch.

St. Lawrence finished with 51 points from its bench, while Taylor Saltus added 12 points for the Roos.

The Saints will return to Liberty League action with a key showdown at Clarkson (16-5, 9-3) on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:00pm.  St. Lawrence then hosts Skidmore to end the regular season on Friday, February 20.
