Senior midfielder
Caroline Crandall scored her first career goal, and the game winner, on Senior Day Saturday afternoon to help the St. Lawrence women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Clarkson in the regular season finale. With the win, the Saints secure the third seed in the upcoming Liberty League tournament.
St. Lawrence celebrated the senior class of Crandall,
Hannah Calvelli,
Mimi Coppinger,
Katelyn Daley,
Emily DePoy,
Emma Fleming,
Amanda Hamilton,
Adriana Morra,
Samantha Rock and
Kelsey West in a pregame ceremony.
"This was a tremendous senior day for the Saints," Head Coach
Franco Bari said. "It started with a beautiful national anthem sung by
Amanda Hamilton. Our back line of seniors Fleming, Morra, Calvelli and Daley preserved the shutout in front of their classmate
Kelsey West, and had three seniors involved in the scoring. I am so proud of their effort today.
Crandall put the Saints in front 1-0 in the 19
th minute when we fired a low shot from the top of the box that beat goalkeeper Anna Demasi on the far side. Rock picked up the assist on the Saratoga Springs native's first career tally, as she carried the ball along the endline before touching around a defender and cutting it back to Crandall up top.
Kaleigh White scored both the second and third goals for St. Lawrence on Saturday, bringing her season goal total to 14 to close in on Hall of Famer Meredith Eisenhut's season record of 15 from 2000, with at least one game still to play this season.
She extended the lead to 2-0 when she collected a blocked
Lindsay Geier shot on the six for an easy finish by Demasi in the 31
st minute and made it 3-0 in favor of the Scarlet and Brown off a free kick from DePoy. Depoy sent the ball into the box from just inside midfield where it was flicked on by Geier and White was there to finish on the far-side six for her 14
th goal this season.
With two assists already on the day, Geier found her way into the goal column with the Saints fourth of the afternoon in the 70
th minute.
Amy Reunert sent a throw in to the edge of the box, it was flicked on by
Katie Stames and Geier finished from 10 yards out, beating Demasi in the middle of the net for her fifth of the season.
The Saints finished with a 22-6 edge in shots and 8-2 advantage in corners against the Golden Knights. West was called on to make two saves, while Demasi finished with
six stops for Clarkson.
Clarkson finishes the season with an overall record of 8-7-2 overall and 0-6-2 in conference play. The Saints are now 12-3-2 overall and earned a 4-3-1 mark in regular season Liberty League matches.
St. Lawrence will travel to No. 2 RIT next Wednesday for the Liberty League semifinals.Â
