Saints Blank Clarkson, Clinch Third Straight Regular Season Title

For the second consecutive game, first-year midfielder Jethro Dede tallied the game-winning goal to the help the Saints to a shutout win, as they blanked Clarkson 3-0 in Potsdam Saturday afternoon to clinch the Liberty League regular season title for the third year in a row.

Fellow first-year Brendan McNamee also scored in the match for St. Lawrence, while senior goalkeeper Ryan Roethel made three saves en route to his 12th shutout of the season.

Dede tallied the game winner in the 29th minute when he collected a cross from senior outside back Dan Hunt and beat goalkeeper Riley McDonald with a low shot in the box.

Midway through the second half in the 68th minute, a miscue by the Clarkson defense led to an own goal that extended the St. Lawrence lead to 2-0. And then, with time winding down  in regulation, McNamee finished into the right lower 90 for his second of the season with Chandler Short assisting for the third and final Saints goal.

McDonald made seven stops for Clarkson on the day, as St. Lawrence outshot the Golden Knights 18-5 overall and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. They also earned five corners and did not concede an opportunity to the Knights.

With the win, the Saints finish the regular season with a 12-3-2 mark overall and 6-2-0 record against Liberty League opponents. Meanwhile, Clarkson wraps up its season with a 5-10-2 record and went 1-6-1 in Liberty League matches this year.

As the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Liberty League tournament the Saints will play host to No. 4 Union on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. on Sandy MacAllaster Field.
