Special Teams Helps No. 2 Eagles Past Saints

Senior defenseman Dominique Korakianitis and first-years Nadine Edney and Lydia Grauer each recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers on Sunday afternoon, but the Saints could not contain an explosive Boston College offense, as they fell to the No. 2 Eagles 7-4 in Boston.

Abbey McRae also scored for the Saints; her first goal of the season. First-year Sonjia Shelly made 38 saves for St. Lawrence, including 17 in the first period.
"We were able to see plenty of good things even in a loss," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "BC has a potent power play and is excellent in transition. They scored some timely goals when we were applying some pressure and at the end of some PKs where we were trying to hold them at bay."

The Eagles, who scored two goals in both the first and second period and three in the final frame, finished with three powerplay tallies on Sunday; two of which came off the stick of Megan Keller.

Keller scored with eight seconds remaining in the first to send Boston College into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. After Alex Carpenter scored in the opening minute of the second to push the lead to 3-0, Edney answered with her first of the season to cut the deficit to two.

Korakiantis and first-year Justine Reyes set up Edney at the 1:43 mark or the middle frame before Korakianitis added one of her own at 8:28 of the same period. Hannah Miller and Amanda McClure picked up assists on the London, Ont. natives goal that pulled St. Lawrence to within one.

Boston College scored three straight goals; one in the final minute of the second period and two within eight seconds early in the third to increase its lead to 6-2.

Grauer tallied an unassisted goal four minutes later and McClure set up McRae for her second helper of the day at the 14:39 mark of the third to make it 6-4 in favor of the Eagles, but that would be all the Saints could get behind netminder Katie Burt, who finished with 20 saves for Boston College.

The Eagles added an empty net goal in the final two minutes for the eventual 7-4 margin.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-4-1 on the season, while second-ranked Boston College improves to 3-0.

"We have a very resilient team that is looking forward to playing tomorrow," Head Coach Chris Wells said.

The Saints will return to Kelley Rink at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill again tomorrow for a rare Monday matchup with the Eagles at 1:00 p.m.
