Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Cruise at Bard, 67-47

Jan. 24: Three members of the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team scored in double figures on Saturday en route to a solid 67-47 win at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.  Kara McDuffee led the way with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Allison Cady and Shayna Davner each had 10 points.

St. Lawrence (12-4, 7-1) quashed Bard's hopes of an upset bid in the first half, as the Saints shot 50% from the field and behind the arc to build a 40-16 halftime lead.  The Raptors (4-12, 0-8) were led by Bianka Bell and Gabriela Piercy, who each had 10 points.  However, the Saints had too much fire power, outscoring Bard's bench 31-13 and building a 34-point cushion in the second half.

McDuffee had nine points, eight boards and four steals in the first half alone, as the Saints jumped out to a 17-4 advantage after trailing 2-0.  Davner was 3-of-4 in the half for seven points, while Kaelyn Kohlasch also had eight points.  The lead grew to 29-6 after an and-1 by Ellie Gonyeau and a jumper by Cady with 8:18 to go in the period.  Though Bard would keep the advantage around 20 for the remainder of the half, Kohlasch hit a three in the final seconds as a dagger for the big 24-point lead.

St. Lawrence kept separation from the Raptors throughout the second half, including a three by Jenny Scudder at the 7:32 mark off a pass from Madelyn St. Pierre for a 58-24 lead.  Bard would outscore the Saints' subs down the stretch to bring the game back to its final mark of 67-47.

Gonyeau finished with a team-high two blocks while adding three assists in her first collegiate start, while Lauren Quattrocchi had a team-high four assists.  St. Lawrence finished with a 44-34 lead in rebounds and held Bard without a three pointer in the game (0-for-5).

St. Lawrence will have a quick turnaround this week, as it hosts North Country rival Clarkson on Tuesday, January 27 at 6pm in the Burkman Gymnasium.
