The St. Lawrence University men's and women's squash added Owen Butler as an assistant coach in the summer of 2017.
"We are fortunate to have Owen joining our staff this season. As both a player and coach, Owen has competed at a very high level and has a strong understanding of the college game," head coach Chris Abplanalp said. "His knowledge and experience will be an asset to both our men's and women's program."
Butler joins the St. Lawrence staff after serving at the Director of Squash and Operations at Squash Haven in New Haven, Connecticut for the past four years. At Squash Haven he structured year-long squash programs for students in 5th through 12th grade, as well as for college alumni in the area. He also organized junior tournaments and hosted NUSEA and US Squash sanctioned tournaments among his other responsibilities. In addition, he served as a volunteer assistant coach for Yale University last season.
He was a four-year varsity squash player at Cornell University and finished his collegiate career ranked 28th in the Dunlop Men's College Squash final individual ranking in March 2013. He captained the Big Red as a senior and was awarded Most Improved as well as Best Record. Butler was also a member of the Big Red's national semifinalist team at the College Squash Association (CSA) Championships.
He graduated from Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a degree in natural resources with a concentration in environmental studies in 2013.
