Prior to St. Lawrence

Donnellan played baseball at Newton North High School where he was also a member of the basketball team… He was a two-year captain of the baseball team and was twice named to the All-Conference First team… Donnellan was twice named All-Scholastic, won the Hamill and Sandy Bartzak awards, and was on the school’s honor roll all four years.
