MacKinnon played soccer at Brooks School where he also competed on the hockey, lacrosse, and baseball teams... He was named to the All-ISL, and All-NEPSSA junior team during his junior season at Brooks... He was a team captain during his senior season, and was awarded the Senior Athletic Prize... MacKinnon was an Honor Roll student during his time at Brooks... During his time at Mount Saint Charles he was named a 3rd team All-League selection during his freshman year... He was also a team captain for his high school team, and was on the High Honor Roll.
