Neil Caniga

Neil Caniga was hired as the head men's tennis coach at St. Lawrence University in the summer of 2013 after a four-year stint at Roger Williams University. He was also named the head women's tennis coach in the summer of 2018 after serving as the interim head coach during the spring schedule of the 2017-18 season and began coaching both programs for the 2018-19 academic year.

Caniga coached the Saints men's team to a 9-9 record in 2021-22 and had three consecutive nine-win seasons from 2013-14 through 2015-16.

In 2017-18, five of Caniga's men's tennis players were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, while the program also received its first ITA All-Academic Team Award during his tenure.

While the interim head coach of the women's tennis team in the spring of 2018, Caniga coached the Saints to the second round of the Liberty League Championship Tournament.

A graduate of Moravian College, he is a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year while at Roger Williams in Bristol, RI.  His team defeated regionally-ranked No. 18 Nichols College in 2013, the program’s highest win against a ranked foe.  He coached 20 individual all-conference honorees at Roger Williams as well as the 2013 Player of the Year.  His 2011 squad set the school’s single-season wins record, while the men’s team had perfect conference marks in both 2010 and 2013.

Prior to his work at Roger Williams, Caniga was the head tennis coach at Moravian College where he was the Landmark Coach of the Year in 2009 after a 13-6 season, tying the most in school history.  As a player at Moravian, he was a First Team All-Conference player all four years and finished his career in the top-3 for both singles and doubles wins.  He is a USPTA Certfied Teaching Professional and current ITA member, served as the conference chair for men’s tennis and was an NCAA Women’s Regional Ranking Committee Member.
