Longtime St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse and field hockey coaching legend Dotty Hall will be enshrined in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November, the IWLCA announced on Wednesday.
Dorothy "Dotty" Hall was one of the most successful coaches in the history of St. Lawrence women's athletics with a combined win total of 306 victories in field hockey and lacrosse, but her impact on the development of the women's athletic program could be the most important part of her distinguished career as a teacher and coach.
She was the first to win a NYSWCAA Team Title with her undefeated lacrosse team in 1990 and was the first St. Lawrence women's coach to earn National Coach of the Year honors, when she was named National Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 1989. She also earned Regional Coach of the Year honors in field hockey and is the first Saints' women's coach to take teams to the National Semifinals in two different sports in the same academic year with the 1989 field hockey and 1990 lacrosse teams.
She amassed a 172-121-1 record coaching lacrosse from 1978-1999. Hall also served as mentor to other women's coaches, and until her retirement in May 2000, was a popular and highly respected teacher. She earned the Maslow Teaching Award in 1995 and was a Danforth Teaching Fellow from 1980-86.
Dotty joined the St. Lawrence faculty and coaching staff in 1966 and won many coaching honors and team titles. She took teams to national play under both the AIAW and NCAA umbrellas and has coached two Hall of Fame teams, as well as many individual Hall of Fame members and during her term as senior women's administrator, she played a major role in the development of women's athletics and was a driving forced in helping create an equitable athletic program.

"I couldn't have been more pleased to hear that Dotty Hall was selected for induction into the IWLCA Hall of Fame," said Senior Vice President for Athletics
Bob Durocher. "Dotty was not only an outstanding coach, but a tremendous teacher and mentor. She made a huge impact on women's athletics at St. Lawrence and helped pave the way for many women's coaches and student-athletes to follow. Coach Dotty Hall is certainly a St. Lawrence University Legend!"
Other inductees in the Class of 2022 include: Current Princeton University head coach, Chris Sailer and Jan Hathorn (Washington & Lee).
"The committee does an excellent job reviewing the credentials for every coach that has been nominated for the Hall of Fame," said Liz Grote, President of the IWLCA and head coach at Bowdoin College. "Comparing coaches from different eras is a challenging task, and the committee takes that responsibility seriously. Dotty, Jan, and Chris are each outstanding coaches that have amassed a legacy of success and have served their student-athletes and the game with distinction. We are very eager to welcome them into the Hall of Fame this fall."
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in November during the IWLCA Convention at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. Tickets for the 2022 IWLCA Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will go on sale later this year and will remain available for purchase through November 11, 2022.Â
