Abplanalp, A. Bayoumy Earn Major Awards, Seven Saints Named All-League

Head coach Chris Abplanalp earned the sixth Liberty League Coach of the Year award of his career and Ahmed Bayoumy garnered men's squash Player of the Year honors for St. Lawrence, as announced by commissioner Tracy King on Friday morning.

Including Bayoumy, seven St. Lawrence student-athletes garnered postseason recognition. Moustafa Bayoumy, Mohamed El Gawarhy and Karim Ibrahim join Ahmed Bayoumy as All-Liberty League honorees, while Hussien Elrayes, Belal Nawar and Lenard Puski were each honorable mention selections for the Saints.

Abplanalp helped the Saints to a fourth-place national finish at the College Squash Association's and their fifth-straight Liberty League Championship in 2017-18. The Saints, who just narrowly missed advancing the national championship match with a 5-4 loss in the semifinals to eventual national champion Trinity, finished the season 15-4 overall and had six individuals compete at the CSA Individual National Championships.

Bayoumy, who finished as the highest-ranked individual among Liberty League players at No. 8 nationally, posted a 12-6 record in dual matches this season and was 13-7 overall with his results at CSA Individuals. He played the entirety of his senior season at No. 1 for the Saints en route to winning the program's seventh Player of the Year award.

Moustafa Bayoumy was 17-4 overall in his senior season, with a 16-2 record in dual matches. He played a majority of the season at No. 3 and was 11-2 in those matches, with his biggest coming against No. 1 Trinity's Rick Penders, 3-2, in the Saints' final home match of the season.

El Gawarhy played in just four matches for St. Lawrence this season but was unbeaten, with two wins at No. 2 and two at No. 4.

Ibrahim, who became a regular on the Saints' ladder this season, finished 14-3 overall with an 11-3 record at No. 2 and a 2-2 performance at the CSA Individual Championships, advancing as far as the Pool Trophy consolation finals. He also earned a pair of wins at No. 3 and won his lone match at No. 1 in 2017-18.

The trio of Saints named honorable mentions combined for a 47-12 overall record this season, with Nawar leading the way at 19-3 including his 4-0 run at CSA Individuals to win the Molloy East Championship.

Puski also competed for the Saints at CSA Individuals and finished the season with a 15-4 record overall. He went 7-0 at No. 4, 6-3 at No. 5 and won his lone match at No. 7.

For Elrayes, he finished his St. Lawrence career with a 13-5 record, including a 7-3 mark at No. 6. He also competed at No. 3 (1-0), No. 5 (4-1) and No. 7 (1-1) this season.
