Gordon White posted a season-best mark of 6.99 meters in the long jump to finish second in the event, and
Ian Clough set Liberty League and school record in the 60-meter dash trials to lead the St. Lawrence University men's indoor track and field team on Day 1 of the Liberty League Championships on Friday afternoon at Newell Field House.
White finished just two centimeters behind RIT's Daniel Giuliano, who posted the winning mark on his second jump of the day. White qualified for the final with a leap of 6.95 meters on his second jump of the day, then improved his mark by four centimeters on his second jump in the finals. White also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.18 seconds.
Clough posted the fastest time of the day in the 60 trials, breaking the school record he set earlier this season by 0.02 seconds with a time of 6.95 seconds, which also broke the meet record of 7.00 seconds, set last year by RIT's Matt Lienhard, whose 7.10 second run in the trials was the second-fastest performance of the day.
Nathaniel Stowe and
Elijah Allman both advanced to the finals in the 60 hurdles.Â
Dylan Babcock and
Kevin Danaher finished third and fifth in the shot put, respectively. Both throwers had personal-best performances, with Babcock hitting a mark of 13.69 meters and Danaher breaking 13 meters for the first time with a throw of 13.02 meters.
Logan Mancuso led the Saints on the track, finishing fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 15:23.58.
The Saints are in fourth place in the team standings with 34 points after the first day of competition. RIT leads the six-team championship with 76.33 points, while Ithaca is second with 69.33.
Competition will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
