Grohn Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Lisa Grohn '17 has been nominated for the NCAA's prestigious Woman of the Year award.

Grohn, a four-time All-America selection in cross country and track and field, was a co-winner of the Martha Finch Outstanding Female Senior Athlete and the Outstanding Female Senior Scholar Athlete by the St. Lawrence University athletic department in May.

She currently holds the school record in the 3,000-meter run (indoors) and was part of a record-setting 4x800 relay. She was the Liberty League Runner of the Year in outdoor track in both 2016 and 2017, was a five-time Liberty League and five-time NYSCTC champion.

She was the president of Sigma Gamma Epsilon and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. A chemistry and geology double major, she graduated with a 3.67 GPA. She was the Ronald C. Hoffmann First-Year Scholar Athlete award winner in 2014 and was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award is based on four pillars: academics, athletics, service and leadership. This year, a record 543 student-athletes were nominated, with 229 from Division I, 117 from Division II and 197 from Division III. Grohn is one of 49 nominees who participated in three sports for their institutions.

Each conference will select up to two nominees, and those nominees will move forward to the Woman of the Year committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, which will choose the top 30 honorees, with 10 from each division. From the top 30, the selection committee will determine the top three honorees from each division and announce nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will choose the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year from those nine.

The top 30 honorees will be recognizes and the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at an award ceremony on Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
