Dede Named Player of the Year; Seven from Men's Soccer Earn All-Conference Honors

Junior midfielder Jethro Dede was named Liberty League Player of the Year and was awarded First-Team honors as announced by league commissioner Tracy King, Tuesday afternoon. Forwards Brendan McNamee and Tapshak Augustine also earned First-Team honors, while Ryan Roche was selected for the league's Second-Team. Rob Brandell, Stephen Dorney and Mike Smith were all awarded Honorable Mention honors.

Both Dede and McNamee led the Saints with 15 points on the season. Dede accumulated six goals and three assists, while McNamee recorded seven goals and one assist.

Dede has been a crucial component for the Saints all year. He helped the Saints out shoot their opponents 231-206 (123-110 LL). He is a danger offensively by helping the Saints create multiple opportunities to score in every contest played. He has tallied the game winner in two 1-0 wins for the Saints against RPI and Skidmore and also picked up the game-winning goal against Bard. He was named Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week on Oct. 9th and was honor rolled on Oct. 23rd.

Junior captain, McNamee ranked fourth in the Liberty League with an average of 3.19 shots per game and second with seven goals. He scored the game-winning goal in the Saints 1-0 first-round win over Skidmore to advance to the conference semifinals. McNamee recorded a season-high of five shots on goal against Union.

Augustine finished the season with two goals and four assists for eight points. His ability to split opposing defenders has been an asset to the St. Lawrence attack. Augustine notched the game winner against Clarkson early in conference play.

On the second team, is senior captain Roche. His shifty footwork and speed helped the Saints distribute the ball well and generate opportunities to score. Roche finished the season with four assists.

Brandell, missed a couple games due to injury, but the senior captain earned Honorable Mention honors as a central midfielder this season. He recorded two goals and four assists for eight points to tie for second on the Saints' squad with Augustine. His penalty-kick goal against Oswego served as the game winner.

Dorney has anchored the defensive line for the Saints all season. He scored his first-collegiate goal against Rhode Island College, which served as the game winner. He has helped St. Lawrence hold their opponents to just 206 shots all season, 110 against Liberty League opponents. He earned Liberty League honor roll honors on Sept. 25th

Goalkeeper Mike Smith earned All-Conference honors for the first time as an Honorable Mention. Smith played and started all 18 games in 2017, playing all 1,695 minutes, and finished the season with a 1.38 goals against average and a .748 save percentage. He finished second in the Liberty League with seven shutouts on the season and fourth with an average of 4.28 saves per game. He recorded a season-high of 10 saves against Wheaton and Skidmore in the Liberty League first-round win.

The Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year went to Vassar's Tyler Gilmore, while Trevor Bisson of RPI earned Rookie of the Year honors. Hobart's Shawn Griffin and RIT's Bill Garno were awarded Co-Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
