The St. Lawrence University men's hockey season officially gets underway tonight against Penn State in State College, Pa., and fans can now listen to all of the Skating Saints' games locally on both WQTK 92.7 FM and WLFK 95.3 FM, The Wolf, or simulcast on the Internet at
http://www.cbogdensburg.com/thewolf/listen-live/.
Â
In addition to the new station, former Saints' head coach Joe Marsh, who retired after the 2011-12 season, will be joining longtime play-by-play announcer Greg Lapinski as a color commentator later this season.
Â
Games have been available on The Wolf for several seasons, but being simulcast on both The Wolf and WQTK will increase the reach of Saints hockey broadcasts by roughly 40,000 listeners.
Â
"We're thrilled to not only be expanding our reach as we simulcast our games on both WQTK and The Wolf, but to be bringing Joe's wealth of knowledge and personality to the broadcast booth," said Director of Athletics and Recreation
Bob Durocher. "The product we will have on the ice and on the air is second-to-none."
Â
Marsh, who will join the broadcast team later in the season, was the head men's hockey coach at St. Lawrence for 26 years. He took two teams to the Frozen Four, making it to the NCAA Championship game in 1988 with current head coach
Mark Morris as one of his assistant coaches.
Â
Former Sports Information Director and color commentator Wally Johnson, who retired in June after a 40-year career at St. Lawrence, will be coming out of retirement to jump back on the air for select games throughout the year.
Â
In the addition to all the men's hockey games, this year's broadcast schedule also includes four women's hockey games, with ECAC Hockey contests against Dartmouth on Oct. 28 and Harvard on Oct. 29 (both 3 p.m. start times), and a home-and-home series with Clarkson on Dec. 1 (7 p.m.) and Dec. 3 (3 p.m.).
Â
Live video of home games will continue to be provided free of charge on
www.saintsathletics.com, and individual archived games will also be available for $8 each through
St. Lawrence Game Day Archives, or by purchasing a
Saints All-Access pass.
