Men's soccer senior captain
Dan Hunt has been spending the New Year in England training with Hartlepool FC, a League Two club in the English Football League, and played in his first game with the clubÂ
"Right now I feel like every other senior at St. Lawrence working through the job interviewing process," Hunt said. "Fortunately for me, this interview is in another country playing the sport I love. I'd like to thank Coach Toshack and Coach Durocher, as well as Dave Farrell from Oakwood SC in Connecticut for helping me reach this point in my career."
Current Saints Head Coach
Mike Toshack was able to arrange a trial for Hunt through one of his former players, Tony Caig, who is an assistant for Hartlepool. Caig, a goalkeeper, played for Toshack while he was with both the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Houston Dynamo of in Major League Soccer (MLS).
"Dan has the attributes to be a good professional player and has a real chance at making a career in the game," Toshack said. "He definitely deserves the opportunity to try and make the jump into the professional game which is very difficult, but he's been doing well and has adjusted to a much higher level of play."
During his career at St. Lawrence Hunt was a two-year captain, played in 73 games and finished with 15 goals and 10 assists for 40 points. He scored four goals in his senior season, including both the first and last goals for the Saints in 2015.
In spite of missing time in each of the last two seasons with injury, he arguably remained one the most dangerous outside backs in the Liberty League with tremendous speed and skill up the wing. Hunt finished his tenure with the Saints as a three-time All-Region selection and two-time All-Conference honoree.
