Bill Flanigan attended St Lawrence from 1930-34 and obtained varsity letters in four sports. He was the first of two Flanigan brothers to be inducted into the Hall. Bill was co-captain of the 1933-34-varsity basketball team, and selected as an all-star football guard that same year by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Following graduation he played semi-pro football with the Albany Knickerbockers and pro basketball with Little Falls, Schenectady and Kingston Colonels in the American Basketball League.

He entered the U.S. Navy during WW II and served as Captain of the USS Poseidon during combat deployments with the U.S. Pacific Fleet. He retired with the rank of Commander.

He served in a variety of law enforcement, parole and correctional administration positions with the State of New York and the Federal government before retiring in 1978.
