Rod Vesling was a Third-Team All-America punter and an Honorable Mention All-America kicker in 1982.
Vesling graduated with nearly all of the kicking and punting records at St. Lawrence and still holds the program record for career field goals (27) and field goals in a game (3). Until 2006, he held the NCAA Division III tournament record for longest field goal in a game at 52 yards, set in a quarterfinal win over Wagner in 1982.
Vesling was a key component in what arguably remains, at the time of his induction, the best season in St. Lawrence history. The 1982 team advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship and finished the season with a 10-1 record. He was named the team’s MVP in 1984 and signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets in 1985.
He went on to build several companies in the digital transaction management space. He is currently the president of Safedocs, Inc. He lives in Newbury Park, Calif., with his wife, Kathy, and he has three children: Lindsay, Alex and Samantha.
