The coach of the only undefeated and untied football team prior to 1982, Paul Patten coached St. Lawrence from 1948-55. A Canton native, his 1950 team went 8-0 and was part of a record of 18 consecutive victories. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he played football, Coach Patten joined the SLU staff in 1947 as both football and hockey coach. He coached the hockey team to 20 wins and five losses in three seasons including an undefeated year in 1949-50.
