St. Lawrence University Athletics

The first St. Lawrence woman to earn a spot on the U.S. National Team in ice hockey, Michele Amidon '94 now oversees the National Team  as USA Hockey's Director of Women's Hockey following an outstanding coaching career at Bowdoin College.

Michele was a standout in both soccer and ice hockey as a St. Lawrence undergraduate and was captain and Most Valuable Player of both teams. She also played one year of lacrosse. She was ICAC Rookie of the Year in soccer in 1990, helping St. Lawrence to the New York State championship with a six-goal, 14-point season. She was named to the Empire Athletic Association soccer all star squad in 1991 after a 10-goal, 23-point season and earned all star honors again as a junior and was among the team  scoring leaders for the third straight year. She missed her senior season in soccer due to injury.  She was part of two straight ECAC Division III Championship teams in ice hockey and helped her team earn ECAC playoff bids in the expanded ECAC Women's Hockey League as both a junior and senior. She was a three-year captain, earning ECAC Rookie and Division III Player of the Year honors in 1990-91. She was ECAC MVP as a junior and was an ECAC All Star as a senior. She was a three-time team MVP.

She won a silver medal as a member of the US Women's National Team at the 1992 IIHF World Women's Championship. She spent nine seasons at Bowdoin College in Maine, one as an assistant coach and eight as head coach, taking her teams to a 140-52-12 overall record which included four NCAA tournament appearances, two New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships and four NESCAC championship game appearances. She joined USA Hockey as its Director of Hockey in2006 and is responsible for the management of the women's national team program including development efforts for both coaches and players.
