The first St. Lawrence team to win a NCAA tournament game, the 1955-56 team went 18-5-0 for the season and finished third in the tournament with a 6-2 win over Boston College.  SLU lost a tight 2-1 battle with Michigan in the semifinlas. Goaltender Sarge Whittier was named second-team All Tournament, joining Joe McLean and defenseman Bill Renner. Forward Ed Zifcak and defensemen Bill Lundberg were All Americas on the 1955-56 team.
