St. Lawrence University Athletics

One of the top woman athletes of the early 1980s, Linda Croyle was a defensive standout in both field hockey and lacrosse and was a key member of some of the first intercollegiate women’s ice hockey teams.

She played all three sports in each of her four years and was a starter in all three. She was captain of the field hockey team as both a junior and senior and was the Coach’s Award winner as a senior. In ice hockey, she was captain as a senior and also won the Coach’s Award as she developed into a good player despite a lack of experience in the sport when she first went out for the team. She was among the team’s leading scorers as a senior with 12 goals and nine assists, helping the team to a 12-7-1 record.

A regular on the women’s lacrosse team on defense in each of her four years, she was a key contributor as a sophomore to the 1981 lacrosse team which made the AIAW national tournament as is a St. Lawrence Hall of Fame team.

The Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award winner in 1983, she was a Dana Scholar, a member of ODK and Delta Lambda Iota and was listed in Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities. Linda is now a college administrator at the University of California-Santa Barbara and is a Diversity Trainer and Consultant.
