A three-time All America and captain of the track team as a senior Kirk Dixon became the first St. Lawrence track and field national champion when he won the 400 meters outdoors in 1984.
Dixon, who also returned kicks for the football team in the 1983 season and led the team with a 26.7 average and a long return of 76 in a televised game against Hobart, was one of the top sprinters in New York State during his St. Lawrence career and set SLU, ICAC and New York State records in the 400 meters both indoors and outdoors. He also set the SLU record in the 500 meters indoors and was part of a 4400 yard Distance Medley Relay team which holds the record in that event.
He was ICAC champion in the 400 and ran on the 400 and 1600 relay teams indoors in 1984 and was New York State champion indoors in the 400, setting meet and field house records. He ran SLU’s first sub-48 second 400 to win the New York State outdoor title, setting the SLU mark at 47.37 and then won the NCAA title with a 47.67 clocking. He was part of a record setting 4x400 relay team and ICAC and state 400 meter champion again in 1985 and qualified for the NCAA championships in three straight years, earning All America in 1984, 1985 and 1986.
Since graduation Kirk has been an award-winning salesman in international freight for DHS and D.B. Schenker Logistics.
