John Hannon

While John Hannon’s active and distinguished academic and athletic career was interrupted by two years of Army Air Force service in World War II, he returned to St. Lawrence to earn his degree and was a key contributor to both the basketball and baseball teams.

An infielder and pitcher in baseball, he was one of the top pitchers for the 1946 baseball team and played four years of both sports. In addition to his athletic career, he was active as a member of the student government, an officer in his fraternity and was an editor for the Hill News. He was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

The retired president of Bankers Trust Company in New York , he was elected treasurer of the St. Lawrence University Corporation in 1967. The Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees, he has been a member of the board since 1968 and served five years (1983-88) as its chairman. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at commencement in 1989.
