Acknowledged as the outstanding middleweight wrestler at St. Lawrence for over five decades, John Hamilton captained the undefeated wrestling team as a senior and was a key performer on teams which went 28-2 over four seasons.
A four-year performer on the wrestling team, Hamilton went undefeated as a senior 145 pounder and threw every opponent he faced. One of his highlight wins was a pin in 52 seconds in the Syracuse match, which helped the team to a 19-11 win in their closest match of the year.
Hamilton, who wrestled on a team with four other Hall of Fame members, wrestled in the Intercollegiates in 1936 and 1937 finishing fourth in the nation in 1937.
A retired high school administrator, teacher and coach in the Keeseville area, he had an outstanding coaching career following his graduation from St. Lawrence.
