Janet Hurley Bliss

A four-year member of the women’s ski team and team captain in both 1973 and 1974, Janet Hurley Bliss has maintained her interest in that sport and is a strong supporter of competitive alpine skiing in Lake Placid.

A Junior A skier and member of the National Ski Team Development squad prior to entering St. Lawrence, she was a Presidential Scholar and a Dean’s List student while an undergraduate. One of SLU’s top alpine skiers, she was sixth in the Alpine Combined at the 1972 St. Lawrence Winter Carnival and had several other top ten finishes in both slalom and giant slalom throughout her career. She was also a member of the women’s tennis team.

Now an attorney in Lake Placid, she worked with the alpine events in the 1980 Winter Olympics. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Olympic Regional Development Authority and also on the Board of Directors of the New York Ski Educational Foundation which benefits young athletes throughout New York State. She is also an advisor for the St. Lawrence Winter Carnival which is held in Lake Placid.
