A quarterback and kicker on the St. Lawrence football team, Frank Shields helped the Saints set a scoring record in the 7-1 1953 season as he was successful on 34 conversion kicks.
White his football contributions were significant, Frank’s impact on St. Lawrence and its athletic program goes far beyond his undergraduate career. He served as an assistant coach while pursuing graduate studies in the 1960s and went on to coach at both the prep and college level.
He returned to St. Lawrence as Director of Alumni Relations, completing a 12-year career in 1993. In his Alumni Relations role, Frank helped facilitate the growth of the Athletic Hall of Fame program. In 1994, he was presented an award of appreciation by the Eastern College Athletic Conference for his contributions to St. Lawrence athletics and the ECAC.
He is the father of two former Saint Lawrence lacrosse players, both All Americas, goalie Steve ’76 and attackman Fram ’79, and his induction marks the first father-son Hall of Fame combination.
