One of the outstanding attackmen in St. Lawrence lacrosse history, Fran Shields played a major role in some of SLU’s best lacrosse seasons.
He was a key player and an All America as a senior, leading the Saints into the NCAA Division II-III playoffs where they were the last team to beat Hobart in the quarterfinals before that school;s NCAA record win streak.
He keyed a record-setting offense which helped the Saints to a 17-4 overall record in 1979, setting records for career goals, career assists and career points as well as season assists and season points.
He went on to a successful collegiate coaching career and was 1993 USILA Division III Coach of the Year and coached in the North-South All Star game before becoming an athletic director.
